Reporting to the Vice President, Pharmacy, the Director, Pharmaceutical Insights will be responsible for leading generic and brand programs, formulating management and program agreements. Interaction with McKesson supply chain and procurement to ensure accurate reporting of analytics, rates and awards. Will lead all aspects of trending to quantify implications of market/regulatory changes to pharmacy programs; as well as project management activities for all strategic supply sourcing initiatives.

What you will be doing?:

Generic Program and Formulary Management

  • Lead the management of the generic portfolio (formulary) including new listings, de-listings, transitions and updates
  • Determine the probability of new molecule launches working with regulatory and commercial teams of vendor partners to assess patent risk and launch timings and budget impact.
  • Lead implementation of new formulary transitions by coordinating timing of release, inventory on hand, and return processes with the McKesson supply chain and Rexall Operations leads.
  • Proactively identify molecules which may slow transition and design and implement tactics to improve conversion.
  • Participate in Supply Chain meetings with Generic vendors to monitor supply status and to facilitate supply security through reserves process and other mechanisms
  • Work with Pharmaceutical Wholesaler on formulary listings, auto substitution logic and system enhancements to maximize formulary compliance while minimizing stale inventory of old formulary drugs
  • Coordinate with other Pharmacy Services functions to optimize the generic portfolio (formulary), including pricing updates
  • Lead work with Pharmacy Services, Supply Chain and Operations on improvement projects, such as Generic Efficiency, Formulary Compliance, and inventory management
  • Identify formulary compliance issues and work provide solutions by working with supply chain, store pharmacy managers, and distribution channels
  • Working with both Regulatory and Finance teams, continuously track and evaluate changes to public and private drug pricing and reimbursement policies, drawing implications and completing financial impact analysis where appropriate.
  • Provide Periodic management reporting to the Pharmacy Management team as the need arises
  • Conduct monthly forecasting on program billings to ensure accurate year end collections by manufacturer

Vendor Programs

  • Establish and build a relationship with new and existing vendor partnerships to develop, design and execute vendor programs that generate value to the business, customers and vendor partners
  • Create innovative investment opportunities for vendor partners that leverage in store marketing, training and awareness campaigns, and Be Well
  • Implement and lead the retail setting vendor programs, track and assess program success
  • Ensure accurate billings and reporting in collaboration with finance
  • Maintain collaborative relationship with Rexall merchandising teams and vendors to develop, maintain and improve the BTC planogram.
  • Working across the Pharmacy Services team, gather and provide Pharmacy subject matter expertise for BTC Planogram
  • Determine the product assortment for the planogram and if needed delist or list products
  • Rework pricing for BTC as the need arises

Direct Sourcing Initiatives

  • Provide project management support for all activities related to direct sourcing for a generic program
  • Lead program agreements within Gx Vendors
  • Coordinate contract amendments for a variety of programs by manufacturer
  • Develop and design Gx Vendor programs to add new value for business, customer and vendor
  • Establish in-depth understanding of all manufacturers contractual obligations to ensure results and performance are closely supervised
  • Execute programs with internal partners such as Operations, Marketing and IT
  • Coordinate with Finance to ensure accurate billing is completed
  • Manage vendor relationships to ensure long term value creation for Rexall


How you will succeed?:

  • Minimum of University degree in Sciences, Business or Commence
  • Licensed pharmacy technician preferred
  • 6-8 years of relevant experience in either generic or brand pharmaceutical industry
  • Knowledge or work experience in vendor or account management roles, particularly trade relationship
  • Experience in pharmaceutical retail is a strong asset
  • Proven ability to work in a cross functional environment and establish relationships across the organization
  • Management experience is an asset
  • Good analytical skills and logical thinking
  • Good negotiation skills with strong eye for business
  • Excellent initiative and follow through skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the capability to handle diverse priorities and work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Solid understanding of full Microsoft Suite with emphasis on sophisticated Excel functions and financial modeling skills
